As the first signs of spring emerge, it’s time to refresh more than just your home. Spring (kapha season) is a season of renewal, and in Ayurveda, it’s the ideal time to shake off winter’s stagnation and reawaken your vitality. ❄️

The cold and dense qualities of kapha season can leave you feeling sluggish and stuck, but with a few simple Ayurvedic self-care practices, you can restore balance, invigorate your energy and embrace the upcoming change in seasons with vitality. 🌱

Kapha’s qualities can show up in both the environment and within you. A kapha-balancing self-care routine can help you revitalize and refresh your mind and body. ✨

Use this Ayurvedic spring-cleaning checklist to feel more energized and invigorated.

  1. Rise early (before 6 a.m.). Wake up early to align your energy with the rhythms of nature.
  2. Scrape your tongue. Use a tongue scraper in the morning to remove ama (toxins) that accumulates overnight.
  3. Drink warm lemon-ginger water. This warm drink can help jump-start digestion.
  4. Practice energizing breath work. Try Bhastrika (Bellows Breath) to awaken and clear stagnant energy.
  5. Energize your yoga practice. Sun Salutations and heart-opening poses encourage energy flow and vitality.
  6. Take a brisk walk outdoors. Spend time in nature to invigorate the senses.
  7. Dry brush your skin. This simple practice leaves you feeling refreshed.
  8. Eat pungent, bitter and astringent foods. Garlic (pungent), spinach (bitter) and basil (astringent) are examples of foods to incorporate in kapha-balancing meals. Limit sweet, sour and salty foods—they can increase kapha.
  9. Avoid naps and keep a consistent bedtime. Excessive daytime sleep can increase a kapha imbalance, so aim for a regular sleep schedule to maintain energy levels throughout the day.

Embrace these kapha-balancing Ayurvedic self-care rituals to welcome the fresh, vibrant energy of spring. Start your spring renewal today! 🌸
