Find Balance in a Busy World: Ayurveda Makes It Possible 🌸

I usually feel a little overwhelmed this time of year. As school winds down, calendars fill up and life shifts into summer gear. In all the busyness, I’ve learned how important it is to have an anchor—something that brings me back to myself.

My tried-and-true anchor? Ayurveda—yoga’s sister science. Rooted in nature’s rhythms, Ayurveda offers simple, nourishing ways to stay centered—even when life feels anything but. 🌱

If you’re craving more balance and energy, Ayurvedic self-care is one of the most rejuvenating ways to reset. ☀️

Create Daily Anchors

When the pace of life picks up, a steady daily routine—known as dinacharya—can be your calm. Here are simple ways to begin. 🌟

  • Wake up at the same time every day, ideally by 6 a.m.
  • Begin your morning with warm water with lemon or lime.
  • Try Abhyanga—a calming self-massage with oil.
  • Eat your largest meal around noon when digestion is strongest.
  • Go to bed at the same time every night, ideally by 10 p.m.

Soothe Your Senses

You make about 35,000 decisions every day—from what to eat to when to sleep. Add in more than seven hours of daily screen time, and it’s no surprise that overstimulation is common.

To steady the fluctuations of the mind, Ayurveda encourages caring for your senses with intention. Try these mindful rituals. 🌿

  • Take a walk near green grass and trees or flowing blue water.
  • Enjoy a few minutes of silence every day.
  • Open the windows and breathe in the scent of freshly cut grass.

Find Balance in Micro-Moments

Life doesn’t slow down, but Ayurveda teaches that peace is found in rhythm. These practices can help guide you back to balance.

  • Pause for a moment: Take a few deep breaths with one hand on your heart before getting out of bed.
  • Ground yourself: Step outside barefoot to connect with the earth. (I recommend grass or sand.)
  • Journal: Include journaling in your wind-down ritual before bed. (Check out my book 108 Yoga and Self-Care Practices for Busy Mamas for journaling prompts to help you get started.)
